Otter Embraced by Deaf, Hard-of-Hearing and Disability Community, Students with  Accommodations, and Corporate and Government Users Seeking Greater Accessibility, Collaboration and Productivity.

Los Altos, CA  - May 14, 2019 - Otter.ai, creator of Otter, an AI-powered live transcription and collaboration app, will join the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) accessibility and ergonomics experts, and other federal agencies as a speaker and exhibitor at their #InnovationAtWork event in support of Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD). Otter will also transcribe select sessions in real time and make the transcripts available to the conference attendees. The event will take place in Washington, DC on May 15, 2019.

The USDA established the Technology & Accessible Resources Give Employment Today (TARGET) Center, its accessibility center of excellence, over 25 years ago to support employees with innovative technology solutions to improve accessibility and contribute to the complete employment experience of individuals with disability-related and ergonomic concerns.

“Accessibility includes everyone and to truly reach the vision of a fully inclusive and innovative workplace, all employees have an important role to play,” said Todd Betteker, Assistive Technology Program Manager, USDA TARGET Center. “We’re pleased to have assistive technology and industry leaders like Otter.ai join us at #InnovationAtWork to promote their solutions to federal agencies.”

“Accessibility is a key use case for Otter. People with hard of hearing, dyslexia, autism, ADHD, ESL, and other learning differences have become our biggest and most passionate advocates,” said Seamus McAteer, General Manager, Otter.ai. “As an assistive technology, Otter’s real-time transcription and rich notes are changing the lives of differently-abled people, enabling them to learn and participate in everyday conversations.”

Otter’s inclusive design tenets:

  • Understand the spectrum of human ability
  • Minimize points of inclusion
  • Identify situational challenges
  • Offer different ways to engage
  • Extend the solution to everyone

Otter Voice Notes is an AI app that transcribes voice to text in real time and generates rich notes for meetings, interviews, lectures, and any live and recorded conversations. By capturing spoken words accurately and making valuable information easily searchable and shareable, Otter helps business professionals, students, journalists, and researchers stay focused, save time, and collaborate more effectively. By providing an interactive transcript player that can be embedded in web pages and social posts, Otter helps podcasters, writers, and public speakers extend their reach to a broader online audience.

Otter for Teams, the company’s business offering, supports advanced collaboration and security features, as well as centralized billing, administration, and reporting. Late to a meeting? Scroll back to catch up with what was said. Missed a meeting? Speed listen and skip to just the highlighted parts. Can’t attend multiple events at the same time? Watch simultaneous live transcripts and decide if you need to jump to another call. Universities, financial institutions, government bodies, media agencies, and other enterprises adopt Otter for Teams to improve employee performance, productivity, and accessibility.

“Productivity is at the heart of enterprise collaboration and Otter.ai and Otter for Teams are capturing untapped meetings and conversations between individuals and companies and transforming the dynamics of live communications with accurate and affordable transcriptions,” said Dave Michels, Principal Analyst at TalkingPointz.com. “Assistive technologies like Otter.ai are being embraced in the unified communications suite by individuals, and the public and private sector.”

“Otter.ai has been nothing short of a game changer for those with hearing impairments, such as me. As an advocate for inclusive design, I truly admire the way they have embraced accessibility after discovering this unique use case, and would wholeheartedly recommend Otter to anyone who may want to use automatic transcriptions,” said Varun Chandak, President of Access to Success, a Canadian not-for-profit coalition of graduate business schools which supports MBA students with disabilities.
